Hayshire Elementary is CYSD Proud

Duke is a two year old Havanese. He is a certified therapy dog. Havanese are hypoallergenic. They have real hair and no undercoat, so they don't shed. Due to the Havanese's friendly trained and readily trained nature, it is used for a variety of jobs involving the public. Duke is owned by our Reading Specialist, Mrs. Thomas. Duke is certified to work with children through KPETS, Keystone Pet Enhanced Therapy Services. In order to obtain these certifications, Duke had to pass several tests. Duke will join Hayshire several times a month. Mrs. Thomas' students will have a chance to read to Duke. Research shows therapy dogs have a positive effect on reading.
