School Counseling

Elementary Counseling Overview
Elementary School Counselors in the Central York School District (CYSD) provide support to learners so they can achieve their highest potential. School counselors help learners grow in the areas of academics, personal-social skills, and career awareness/development by following the CYSD School Counseling Standards.
School counselors have many facets to their job. They provide developmentally appropriate classroom lessons that enhance academic development by teaching skills for school success. Personal/social skills help students understand/manage their emotions and get along with others. Learners gain career awareness through the connection of how personal interests can lead to a future career.
Part of the school counseling standards includes "The Green Circle" which focuses on pro-social skills and diversity awareness. The "Green Circle" is about showing caring, sharing, and respect to others. By recognizing the fact that humans come in different shapes, sizes, colors, abilities, and ethnic backgrounds, learners can grow their social circle of awareness.
